I grew up in southern Illinois, where catfish is a delicacy. My favorite place to go was the E-town River Restaurant in Elizabethtown. They are known far and wide for their catfish. It is as fresh as you can get it, right out of the Ohio River it sets on. Little did I know that my high school friend, Joe Lowry and his wife Staci would buy it decades later.
They have seen their share of challenges since they bought it. Being that it is on the river, they deal with Old Man River, and have to close their doors occasionally until he decides to recede. COVID lockdowns and restrictions slowed them down some, but they managed to bounce back with carry-out and outdoor dining becoming the norm.
The thing about Joe & Staci is that they came in and looked for ways to improve. They aren't just serving catfish and burgers anymore! They have even added new items to the menu, including house-smoked pulled pork. They also plan to add homemade BBQ sauce that Joe has been working to perfect.
If you ever make it to that neck of the woods, I highly recommend a stop at E-town River Restaurant. You won't be disappointed. The food is amazing, the view is beautiful, and if you're lucky, you might even get to see one of the river boats! AND the Shawnee National Forest is right there!
